For the Afternoon, Unhurried
Tea has a way of changing the pace of a room. This Victorian service brings a quiet sense of occasion to the table: a teapot, a lidded sugar bowl, and a creamer, each shaped with a softly fluted body and lifted on small, ornamented feet.
The forms catch the light along their curves, while the surface has mellowed with age. Found in Pézenas, the set bears the mark of Shaw & Fisher of Sheffield, England. The crossed-arrows mark is consistent with the firm’s marks from 1872 onward, suggesting a late Victorian date, circa 1872–1894.
Set out together, the three pieces make a lovely centre to a tea table. Between gatherings, they have the presence to rest on a sideboard or open shelf - objects to live with, not save for a special occasion.
Sold as a set of three. All sales are final.
