For the Table, and What Gathers Around It
There is a certain pleasure in setting out a proper gravy boat, even for an ordinary meal. This silver-plated Christofle piece brings a little ceremony to the everyday table.
Its softly flared form rests on a pedestal base, accompanied by a matching underplate. Sculpted details at the handle and base lend the silhouette a sense of movement. On the plate, an engraved monogram offers a small glimpse of the tables it has known.
The surface has a warm, lived-in patina, with fine scratches, tarnish, and scattered dark spots inside the boat. These signs of age and use soften its shine and give the piece a sense of having been kept and brought out over time.
Made for serving, it feels at home at a long lunch or set aside on open shelving between gatherings — a useful piece with a quiet presence.
