From the Kitchens of the Countryside

Sourced in France, this antique stoneware pitcher is characteristic of the pottery tradition associated with the Puisaye region. Vessels like this were shaped for daily use — carrying water, wine, or cider between kitchen and table.

Its rounded body is finished with a pinched pouring spout and small curved handle. Bands left by the maker’s hand remain visible beneath a richly varied glaze, shifting from warm ochre and honeyed brown to darker, almost smoky markings. Pitting and irregularities from the firing process give the surface its distinctive depth.

Time has softened the pitcher further, leaving behind the patina and variation that make an antique piece entirely its own. Display it on open shelving, gathered with other vessels, or simply on its own.
