A Vessel Shaped by Fire & Time
Originating from the Puisaye region of France, this 19th-century stoneware jug was made for storing and carrying oil, wine, or water. Its generous ovoid body narrows into a small opening, finished with a compact loop handle that recalls its original utility.
Horizontal throwing lines travel across the surface beneath a richly varied glaze. Golden ochre gives way to russet brown through the body, while a pale sweep of glaze gathers near the base. Small markings and irregularities left by the kiln make the surface entirely individual.
The jug’s substantial scale and rounded silhouette give it a sculptural presence. Displayed on the floor, a low table, or open shelving, it brings warmth and the quiet weight of age to a room.
